WEN Hair Care System

Wen Hair Care!

We've all seen the infomercials that have us wondering what this hair sorcery is. Chaz Dean, famous celebrity hairstylist, has developed an up and coming super popular hair care system to replace "shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner". The Wen Cleansing Conditioner is a non-foaming, sulfate free step that removes the chemicals and plastic fillers found in most shampoo systems. You can change the frequency of your shipment and what comes in your kit. You can fill your kit with the conditioners, styling products, and different "flavors". To begin, I have a very thick, coarse, naturally curly long hair.

First I'm going to talk about the actual conditioner itself. We'll get to the styling products later. I ordered it online and for just a few dollars extra I got priority shipping. I had my package within 4 days. Not bad. I open my kit and it was filled with lots of goodies and free gifts so to speak. They usually try to fill it up with trial size products to get you to try them out to buy later. It came with a how to guide for not only the conditioner but the styling products as well.

I have a degree, but I usually say I've got book smarts, and sometimes my common sense goes out the window which is why I really like how to guides. Sometimes, I need a play by play or I will pull an Amelia Bedelia and put dust on the furniture. To my surprise however, it wasn't a one stop process. It's not a one and done conditioner. First it states to use cool, not hot water. (Difficult for me because I like to scald myself in the shower). You apply the conditioner liberally to hair from root to ends and then rinse. Then, you apply a second coat, focusing on the mid-shaft to ends. At this point, you can also add another product they have out called 6/13. Sort of like a booster conditioner to really amp up the softness. You leave the conditioner in for the remainder of your shower and add the booster with 2-3 minutes left. Then rinse. And voila! You have silky shiny and extremely smooth and soft hair. It truly does what it says it does. I love this product and hate when I run out. My first shipment only contained 1 bottle of the cleansing conditioner so I was out within 4 weeks and had to use my other stuff and did not like it at all. The second shipment was 3 huge bottles of the cleansing conditioner, more styling products and another big bottle of 613. Plenty to last until my next shipment.

Now, I have heard some people complain that it can make your hair feel greasy. I seemed to have noticed this by my 3rd of 4th use. But, I also wasn't following the directions completely. I went back to using warm water and even had to do a couple of drive by sink washes. There was no time for the cleansing conditioner to truly work and do it's job to "cleanse". I also added a normal shampoo to my regimen once or twice a week. I have no doubt this stuff is legit when it comes to being the ultimate conditioner. It may just not be the best at truly cleansing your hair, especially if you have oily hair. So when I started following the directions to a T, and added a shampoo once a week. It was back to the softest hair, and I truly received lots of compliments.

For the styling products. If you choose the styling trial kit as your first gift you'll get a straightening gloss, volume powder, renewing mask/leave in conditioner, texture balm, and the anti-frizz styling cream. I could have sworn I saw the replenishing mist, but I opened everything on my bed like a kid on Christmas and I think things went flying and rolling everywhere. After using the conditioner alone, my hair was truly soft and light weight. I could really tell that all of the nasty junk in other other products was gone. So I began to style. I used the anti frizz cream which is great. I use it every time I style my hair even when I decide to go curly. I add a little of the texture balm after its dried to really hold in the curls and its great. The volume treatment is a powder that feels a little wet, but you sprinkle it in your palm and apply to the roots. It's a little tacky which is what makes your hair voluminous, but it just didn't seem to last all day for me.  I don't really have a problem with volume so I didn't need to keep ordering it. The straightening gloss was a great finish and just kept the fly aways down and was the perfect last step. I give this product 4/5 stars! I won't go back to any other conditioner.
